I woke up to the beeping sound of the hotel alarm. I opened my eyes and saw that it read 7:00 A.M. I was ready for my Super bowl game today. I went around and woke up the other players on my team. We all ate breakfast in our Marriott buffet. While we were eating it was quiet because we were all still tired. After breakfast we all got up from our tables and walked out the sliding doors into the cool breezy air in Louisiana. It was Super Bowl XXXI today and we the Packers were favored to win by 14 points. I was the most confident going into this game because I was the starting quarterback and I was one of the best in the NFL. We took our coach bus to the Louisiana Superdome. On our drive to the stadium there were fans in green, gold and the occasional white on the streets cheering for us as we drove by. We took the back entrance into the stadium that was fenced off and guarded by police with handguns. We all got off of the bus and immediately news reporters asked me how I was feeling today. I answered them saying how I was confident and expecting to win but that I didn't want to be too confident. Our team headed up to our guest locker room. It was pretty dull with white brick walls and cement grey ground with a couple spots of white carpet. The locker room was boring because we were the visiting team. We all had our own lockers with our jerseys and gear hanging up in them. I walked over to mine and grabbed my green jersey with a yellow stripe on the sleeve. The back of the jersey had #4 with the name on top that read Favre. I changed out of my suit coat and dress pants into my football pants and pads. I was the first out of the lock room and I lead the line to go jog out to the field and warm up. I had my helmet in my hand and once I stepped out of the tunnel all of our fans stood up and started cheering. I tried to ignore the cheers because I needed to focus on the game. We had 30 minutes to warm up before the national anthem and the introduction to the super bowl. We were told by our coach to come off the field for the national anthem. Once it started everyone in the stadium went silent and we all had our hands over our hearts. I remember how beautiful the singing was and I asked a player next to me, "Who is this?" He answered, "Luther Vandross." I have remembered his name ever since. After the National Anthem was the coin toss. The Patriots won it but that was alright because we got to start with the ball the second half. Now it was Kickoff. Our kicker, Chris Jacke, kicked the ball to the 5 yard line and they returned it to the 25 yard line. Our defense held strong and stopped them, but now it was my time to go out on the field. We had the ball on the 46 yard line on our own side. "Hut Hut Hike!" I took 5 steps back, waited for my receivers to get open when Rison, my wide receiver, broke away from his coverage. I threw a long ball down field. He caught it! "Touchdown!" said the announcer. We had the momentum on our side now. The next drive we stopped their offense again. Our offense went out on the field again. I was ready to score another touchdown, but this time they held us to a field goal. The score was now 10-0. This time when the Patriots had the ball our defense couldn't stop them. They threw a short pass for a touchdown. We got the ball back but again we got stopped but this time we didn't get a field goal. Instead we had to punt it. Again they scored with a short throw for a touchdown. The whistle blew signaling the end of the first quarter. We got the ball to start the second quarter. We returned the ball to the 19 yard line. My coach signaled a long pass play so I huddled my team and told them their routes. "Down, set, hut, hike!" I took a 4 step drop, waited in the pocket and threw a long ball down the sidelines to my wide receiver Antonio Freeman. He outran the cornerback that was covering him and caught it for a touchdown. It was an 81 yard touchdown pass. Again we had the momentum on our side. Our defense stopped them on the next drive and we got the ball back. They held us to a field goal on our next drive. The score was now 20-14. Again, our defense stopped them. Once again our offense got the ball. We moved the ball all the way down the field till the two yard line. It was 3rd down and goal with 2 yards to go. I ran a QB sneak right behind my center and I dove between his leg and the right guard's leg into the end zone. "TOUCHDOWN!" The score was now 27-10 and it was the end of the half. We all thought we were for sure going to win this game. When we got into the locker room our coach congratulated us and said," Keep it up out there. You are all playing well and if you keep playing this good you will have a win. Let's Go!" We all got drinks and stretched to get ready for the second half. We all jogged out onto the field and got ready for the kickoff. We received the kickoff and brought it to about the 24 yard line. Their defense stopped us though. We had to punt the ball away. They got the ball and scored a touchdown off of an 18 yard run to their running back Curtis Martin. The next kickoff their kicker kicked it to the 1 yard line where our kick returner, Desmond Howard, brought it out. He juked out the first guy and ran to the outside. I couldn't believe it! He just had to beat the kicker to get into the end zone. He broke the kicker's tackle and now was running along the sidles into the end zone. Touchdown! Everyone was cheering. It was a huge momentum boost. It was the end of the third quarter. We kicked the ball off to them for the start of the 4th quarter and our defense stopped them. Once again our offense came out onto the field. We managed to move the ball to the 50 yard line but no farther than that. We had to punt the ball away. Our defense stopped them again and on our next drive they stopped us. This continued till the last play of the game. We had the ball and all I had to do was kneel and we would win. "Down, set, hut" I kneeled with the ball in my hand. Now it was time to celebrate. We ran around hugging each other and cheering our loudest. I was crying tears of joy. I congratulated everyone from the Patriots and wished them luck next year. I was so happy. I did a couple interviews with some reporters but I just wanted to celebrate my win. It was now time for awards. I was hoping to get the MVP award but instead Desmond Howard did because of the kick return. When we were awarded the super bowl trophy everyone cheered. I remember holding it in the air. It was the greatest feeling o my life. I will always remember that Super Bowl day. It was the best day of my life. Authors Note Brett Favre has always inspired me to never give up. He was always the second string quarterback and he always practiced hard to earn the role of starting quarterback. He never gave up and it paid off in the end. He became the starting quarterback and not only that but he became one of the best ever. I wanted to write about his Super Bowl XXXI game because it was one of his most memorable games. It was one of his favorite games and one he will never forget. I researched this topic by looking through articles online. An article that I found most helpful was a website called Pro Football. It had all of the information that I needed. I also looked on Wikipedia but I made sure that the information was correct by research in more about the topics. I also used CNN which is the article I got by searching through EBSCoHost I used the website Pro Football by an unknown author to get the stats on the game and who scored touchdowns and who didn't. I used Wikipedia to find out what Brett Favre was feeling and other informational facts that were needed to tell about the game. I got most of my information from interviews I saw on my websites. I couldn't get enough information from the interviews so I had to create some of Brett Favre's feelings. I watched a show on TV about recent Super Bowls and Super Bowl XXXI was in the show. I watched it and learned some stats from the show. For my research I used other searches instead of just searching Brett Favre I would search Super Bowl XXXI. All of the statistics in my story are true, but not all of Brett Favre's feelings are true. It was hard to keep the story moving along with the limited amount of information from interviews. I have learned more about Brett Favre from this research and writing this essay. I have also learned about Super Bowl XXXI and all of the statistics. I hope that you also have learned new things about these two topics.
