Pets have been used as an art of companionship for centuries. In earlier times, they were used as servitude such as herd dogs or stagecoach horses. These animals were used as tools to aid in finishing labor. However, as time passed, special bonds were created while owning them. They vary all throughout the animal kingdom from dogs and cats to hermit crabs and chinchillas. There are no limits to what a pet owner can obtain; whereas, it must be reasonable. Now owners purchase animals to become pets as other reasons. Certainly, parents do not buy their children a hamster or a puppy to see it die; they buy it to see if their child can show responsibility. Parents use this as a maturity test. In this little experiment, the domesticated animal that is bought becomes the family pet and the offspring has to cater to its every need to deem themselves accountable. House animals are also a good test of obligation for people who live by themselves. It shows the solo possessor how to manage a dependent that is variable to change like a budget. Mutts are a mix of any two dogs and individuals would be content to have but on the contrary, some people have a profit motive and breed dogs. Dog breeding is the practice of mating selected dogs with the intent to maintain or produce specific qualities and characteristics. Purebred dogs include American Bulldogs, Basset Hounds, and Dalmatians. People pay large sums of money for pure bred dogs. UGA (University of Georgia) breeds their mascot, UGA, which is an American Bulldog. However, some pure breed dogs acquire genetic defects like disease or disability. UGA and other purebred bulldogs die in three years due to heart disease. Pets are extraordinary companions. Owners and pets both benefit from the mutual relationship.

  • Is the concluding paragraph interesting? Does it leave an impression on the reader?
Overall Essay
  • Is any important material left unsaid?
  • Is any material repetitious and unnecessary?
  • Has the writer tried to incorporate "voice" in the essay so that it has his/her distinctive mark?
  • Are there changes needed in word choice, sentence length and structure, etc.?
  • Are the quotations (if required) properly cited?
  • Has the essay been proofread for spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.?
  • Does the essay have an interesting and appropriate title?
