Pollution is a major hazard that causes many problems to the people and environment. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem. It is divided into three: air, water and noise. Pollutants are the elements of pollution. Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm to living organisms or environment, into the atmosphere. The main pollutants of air pollution are sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The main causes of air pollution are the smoke from power plants, motor vehicles, wildfire and fumes from paint and spray. The health effects caused by air pollution include difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing and aggravation of existing respiratory and cardiac conditions. The World Health Organization states that 2.4 million people die each year from air pollution. The main environmental effect of air pollution is the depletion of ozone layer. It can be controlled by devices such as particulate control, Scrubbers, NOx control and VOC abatement. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. It affects the rivers, lakes, oceans and drinking water. The main water pollutants are detergents, food waste, chemical waste, and heavy metals from motor vehicles. The sources of water pollution are contaminants that enter the water supply from soils or groundwater systems and outfalls from factories and refineries. The health problem from water pollution includes poor blood pressure, vomiting, skin lesions and damage to the nervous system. Water pollution can be controlled by many ways. Industrial waste water can be controlled by cooling ponds and towers. Domestic sewage is treated by centralized sewage treatment plants. Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine-created noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. The source of most noise is mainly construction, pubic events, motor vehicle noise, aircraft noise and rail noise. Noise pollution health effects are both health and behavioral in nature. Noise pollution can cause annoyance, aggression, hypertension, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful effects. Chronic exposure to noise could cause noise-induced hearing loss. Noise pollution also affects animals by increasing the risk of death by changing the balance in the predator detection and avoidance. There are many methods which help to control the noise pollution. It can be controlled by reducing the source of noise and decreasing the traffic near the residential homes, educational institutes and hospitals. Pollution is the leading cause of many health and environmental related problems. So, it must be reduced to get good health and environment. The best way to reduce pollution is to reduce and recycle the things that cause pollution.
