As an avid sports fan, there is nothing more exciting than going to a sporting event of my favorite team. To be surrounded by other sports fans who are rooting for the same team as you brings a sense of togetherness. The feeling of "this is our team" and "if they win I win" brings all sports fans together. However, even with this togetherness bond between sports fans, they can be classified into four distinct categories. The first category and the most common is the casual sports fan. The casual sports fan will be dressed in very comfortable clothing and will usually be sitting in the middle section of the arena. You can usually spot casual sports fans with a beer in their hands, but they will never get drunk. They enjoy going to the game for the game. Whenever they can get tickets to a game, they will come to watch the game because they love the sport. It really doesn't matter who their team is playing against, as long they get to watch their team in action. Another category of the sports fan is the social sports fan. This lovely group of fans comes to the game strictly to be seen. They usually have the best seats in the house, even though they don't really watch the game. It's almost like a fashion show with this group of fans. The men and women will put on their best garb and walk up and down the aisles with beer or wine in their hands. I don't think they know what sport they are watching. You can count on many of them leaving before the game is over to beat the traffic on their way to their next social event. Then we have the die-hard sports fan. The die-hard sports fans usually have season tickets for many years. They know everything and anything about their team, from the coach's middle name to how many points so and so scored thirteen years ago on that day. These are the fans that believe that their team will make the playoffs even when their team has won five times and has lost seventy-four times throughout the season. They are loyal to their team and will usually be wearing a team cap from the seventies. The die-hard sports fans live for their team and would do anything to help the team. The last sports fan is the "crazy" sports fan. I call this group the crazy sports fans because when I see them in the stands I think they are absolutely crazy. They have some of the qualities of the other sports fans. The crazy sports fans enjoy the game for the game, they want to be seen, and they are loyal to their team. Let me explain. You will never see a crazy sports fan alone. The crazy fan will usually be with all the other crazy sports fans. They will usually sit together in the nosebleed section of the arena, with their faces painted with their team's colors. For example, the crazy sports fan will have a purple and gold face at a Los Angeles Lakers' game. You may also see crazy sports fans with their shirts off in the middle of winter. On their chests they will spell out something like, "go Lakers" or the "Lakers rule". They will also be drinking lots of beer and holler and shout that their team is the best. They love the game, they want to be seen, and they are loyal to their team. These sports fans are the ones who motivate a team most. The fans are one of the many factors that can get a team to play better. All four types of sports fans have special qualities that enable a team to play better at crucial times. When all four types of fans are cheering together, the cheering motivates the team to erupt into a scoring machine. Although there are many differences between the fans, they are very similar in the most important aspect of the game. They are rooting for the same team. So, which sports fan do you belong to?
