As I sit here and think of a lesson I have learned in my life that I would want to share with others, the phrases of infamous songs play in my head: "I was born this way" and "You wanna be a loser like me." Over the last two years, I really became myself. I learned who I was and who I wanted to be. Just like Lady Gaga and the Glee members of McKinley High, I want to share with others that it is okay to be yourself. Embrace who you are because life is too precious to waste time pretending to be someone you are not. It is a known fact that many people find it hard to be themselves. They want to be "cool" or "popular" or be friends with people who really are not like them. However, is it really worth changing who you are? Originality is something every person in this world possesses, but most are too caught up in the drive for approval and acceptance that they forget who they are. Celebrities, such as Lady Gaga, and television shows, such as Glee, convey this message to their audiences. Both Gaga and Glee inspire me to enjoy my life as me. Lady Gaga writes in her music that "there's nothing wrong with loving who you are... cause he made you perfect, babe." In essence, Gaga says that God made you the way you are for a reason. You were born this way and born to be you. The glee members of McKinley High reveal to their audience that you can be yourself, even if you are a loser, and still have friends. People will appreciate you for who you are. The show encourages me to give everyone the time of day because every person has a story. Every person is different and unique in their own way. In previous years, I have tried to fit in and be someone who I am really not. Today, I am a better person because I am myself. I learned from Lady Gaga, Glee, and my family that it is okay to be yourself. People will love you no matter what types of music you like, clothes you wear, and food you eat. There will be people in your life that will accept you for who you are and there will be others who will look right past you. I want to let others know that it is okay for you to be a one-of-the-kind. Every single person in the world is unique and beautiful in his/her own way. You do not have to impersonate someone to be accepted in this world. There is no other Alexandra Spada in this world. I am who I am and I will not change anything about me to impress someone else. I believe this is an important lesson that I will share with people for the rest of my life. I was born this way. You were born that way. We were all born different than one another. Embrace it, accept it, love it. You are who you are for a reason.
