Wrestling is one of my favorite sports. I have wrestled since Kindergarten so about eleven years now. Not once in those eleven years has wrestling been easy. This I believe, I believe wrestling is definitely the hardest, toughest and requires more dedication than any other sport. Wrestling takes great stamina, strength, and quickness to be good at it. The only way to achieve that is through training. Practices are harder than any other sport that I know of. In my practices, which are two hours a day and five days a week, we go one hour drilling and practicing moves. Then comes the hard part, we go thirty minutes live wrestling with our partners, basically single combat on a mat and exhausting each other until one of us loses. After live wrestling we do our workouts, which can be more wrestling, sprints, medicine ball workouts, weight lifting, or anything else the coach can devise for us. I have been in four other sports and none even come close to being as grueling as wrestling practice. Another thing wrestling requires is toughness. Everyone is tested on their toughness in wrestling at some point. People get hurt all the time and it is how they deal with it that they are judged on. I saw one kid the other day dislocate his finger, just pop it back into place and kept wrestling. A teammate I have was wrestling the top ranked kid in the state and tore his ACL. He then went on to finish the match and give the kid his closet match of the entire tournament. That is why wrestlers have to be so tough. Dedication is definitely one of the biggest factors on whether a wrestler is just decent or if they are great. Not only do they have to do what I just told you about but also they have to do it for four to five months just during the season. Also during the season many wrestlers are cutting weight, sometimes 25 pounds or more. If a wrestler wants to be great they have to do some off season wrestling, which usually consist of wrestling all spring and most of summer. If that is not dedication I don't know what is. The pay-off from this is the best. Winning matches is one of the greatest feelings in the world because you know that you did it by yourself and put forth the effort to win. Wrestling is the hardest, toughest and does require the most dedication then any other sport but it all works out in the end if you duke it out.
